SM265 2 x 16 LCD Display Module
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The SM264 module uses a generic Two-Line by 16 Character backlit LCD module that is bonded to a microprocessor backplane that supports display information sent on a single wire. Both power and data connections are made to the host system via a standard RJ12 (6wire) flat cable. This greatly simplifies both installation and support of the display as they may be connected and disconnected with ease.
FEATURES
- The SM265 is a compact version of the SM264 with the push-button switches omitted
- Display contrast is adjusted by use of a trimmer resistor on the rear of the display.
- Character size on this module is approximately 7mm high.
- A piezo beeper on the display can be used to announce alarm events or signal button presses
- Size and mounting details are described in the PDF article below titled: MECHANICAL DATA ON LCD DISPLAYS.
- The transmission and reception of data to and from this module conforms with the Alian Elect. Serial Display Command set. Details of this protocol are explained in the PDF article below titled: BASIC LCD DISPLAY MODULES.
- The SM265 has a grey matching plastic enclosure available. (Shown below without enclosure label)

ARTICLE: BASIC LCD DISPLAY MODULES
This is a technical article in PDF form that discusses the workings of LCD display modules in general, with some specifics about the SM264 / SM265 / SM267 display modules as produced by Alian Electronics.
It discusses how these common modules are unfriendly to work with and communicate with and how the addition of an Alian Elect interface board can reduce the communications complexity to using single serial data packets.
