SM107 Forklift Seatbelt Interlock
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The SM107 unit is a safety interlock controller for ride-on forklift vehicles. It ensures that the operator is correctly seated within the vehicle and the seatbelt correctly engaged before the ignition system is enabled.
It monitors three sensors in succession for a valid start sequence to occur. When the operator first occupies the vehicle seat, a seat sensor is activated. A fifteen second timer is then tripped within which the seatbelt must be withdrawn from its home position. When this step has been detected, there is a further ten second period within which the seatbelt buckle must be correctly clicked into place. Once this sequence has been correctly achieved, the unit will give a double beep and the ignition system on the vehicle is enabled for normal operation.
FEATURES
· A small yellow LED lamp indicate that the unit has power connected (This is normally on).
· A sequence of three amber LED lamps monitor the progress of the three sensors.
· A green LED lamp indicates that the ignition is presently enabled.
· A rapid beep for 20 seconds indicates that the start sequence timed out and that it should be re-commenced by
the operator before the vehicle can be used.
· If during normal use, any of the three sensors are interrupted (ie. Buckle unplugged, seat vacated) then there is a 30
second window for the operator to resume the seat and restore the belt, or the engine will be disabled and the control unit
will resume its original ‘standby’ state.
· Should one of the timed sequences expire while the operator is mounting the vehicle, the corresponding amber LED lamp
will flash slowly to indicate the source of the problem.
The unit has integral tamper protection to check the integrity of the sensor wiring and the ignition circuit. Should any of these circuits be disturbed (unauthorised tampering) then the red ‘tamper’ lamp will latch on indefinitely. It may be reset only by brief use of a key switch located in the side of the unit. (The ‘Tamper Reset’ key provided would normally be in the possession of the floor supervisor and technical service staff.)
The SM107 control unit is 37mm high, 117mm wide and 215mm long (including the flange mount) The enclosure also features a rubber seal to prevent water ingress.
A multi-stage filtering system provides protection against high voltage transients that are often present in electric and internal combustion forklifts. .
